Why am I giving away free prints?
That's a great question ...
First, let me tell you why I create art. For me, art is an escape and place where I can relax and get lost in the places I paint. When I'm stressed, I can pick up my paintbrush and transport myself somewhere else. I love trying to capture the beauty of the places I travel and the things I see. In particular, I find that being out in nature brings me to a place of total peace and it always inspires me to paint.
Why I painted this colletion and what it means to me ...
The word solace means to find comfort or consollation from grief, distress or sadness. Over the past several years, I've gone through some challenging times on a personal level and through that, I've been drawn to paint nature scenes that for me, provide solace. As you can see from this collection, I've been particularly drawn to trees and water. Anytime I'm surrounded by trees or next to a serene body of water, I feel like everything in my body exhales and I am overcome with a profound sense of peace. I can let go of whatever is making me sad or stressing me out - there are no people or traffic, no loud noises and sounds ... you can close your eyes and hear all the sounds of nature - the water lapping, birds chirping, an animal scurrying in the brush. And there's actually science behind it - being out in nature lowers levels of your stress hormones ... and it's cheaper than therapy! In short, my paintings are places I want to be when I'm surrounded by the stresses of life.
But why give the prints away for free?
I've gotten this question a lot ... why give away anything for free? I'm going to be real - painting is the easy part, selling is not. I love sharing my art with other people and there's no greater thrill than someone loving my art so much that they want to buy a painting or a print and hang it in their home. About Shelley
Shelley's been artistic and creative for as long as she can remember, whether it was making her own hand-painted t-shirts, painting murals on her walls growing up, decorating toy boxes, making decorative art for her family, or decorating cakes and cupcakes for friends.
For the last 25 years, her creative side has helped her build a successful business as a web designer and graphic designer (Web Crafters), giving her the freedom to pursue her passions, which include travel and painting.
